Bianna  Golodryga is an American journalist.  On September 20, 2019 CNN  named Bianna a senior global affairs analyst, and noted she would also do some fill-in anchoring. She was serving as a contributor on CNN.   Previously she was the news and finance anchor at Yahoo! News. Bianna was also previously co-anchor of the weekend edition of ABC’s Good Morning America and a co-host of CBS This Morning

In April of 2010 she was named co-anchor of “GMA Weekend”. Since that date, the program has become the most watched Saturday morning news program in the timeslot.

Bianna has extensively reported on the automobile, housing and credit crises, and the financial crisis. She reported also on the World Economic Forum from Davos, Switzerland and Warren Buffett’s annual shareholders’ meeting in Omaha, Nebraska. In addition, she was responsible for the network’s digital media and social networking coverage during the 2008 Presidential election.

She started her career in television news in 2001 as a bureau producer from the New York Stock Exchange for the cable news channel, CNBC. In that role she produced live coverage following the 9/11 terrorist attacks and conducted countless interviews with top business leaders. She became a segment producer for “The Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo in 2004 ,” the nation’s most watched financial news program, producing interviews with the world’s top corporate and political leaders. Golodryga covered various high profile events for the network, including the World Economic Forum in Switzerland at CNBC. Aditionally, she also began contributing as an on-air correspondent for the financial channel in 2006. Bianna at CNBC she was responsible for all of the network’s financial reports for NBC Network affiliates around the country, and also served as a reporter and substitute anchor.

Apart from her career in television, she also worked in the financial services sector.

Golodryga was born on 15 June 1978 to a working-class family of Bessarabian Jews in Căușeni, Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic (now independent Moldova). She is the only child of Zhanna and Vitaly Golodryga.

When she was 18 months old in 1980, her family left the Soviet Union as political refugees, each with $75. The family settled in Houston, Texas after initially moving to Galveston, Texas. She has returned to Moldova only once since then in 1988 , while visiting her grandparents and cousins. That same year, Bianna’s grandmother joined them in Houston. Her mother is the Chief information officer of Hess Corporation and her father who is a mechanical engineer, was a consultant for DuPont.

Golodryga attended the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston. Though she attended the School she was interested in becoming a journalist instead of an actress. After performing in a play about AIDS written by her teacher she was inspired to look closer at what was going on in the world. In May, 2000 she graduated from the University of Texas at Austin , with a degree in Russian/East European & Eurasian studies and a minor in economics. Golodryga is fluent in Russian, and knows a few phrases of Romanian (spoken in Moldova).

Bianna Golodryga, who joined “CBS This Morning” as a co-anchor on October 3, 2018 ,left  the morning program, two sources familiar with the matter told HuffPost.

She had been moved off the program by the new president of CBS News, Susan Zirinsky. Susan felt that the show had too many anchors (it currently has four: Norah O’Donnell, Gayle King, John Dickerson and Golodryga), according to the sources, who requested anonymity to freely discuss network business.

The talent change at “CBS This Morning” is the first Zirinsky has made since becoming president on March 1.

Susan had hoped to keep Bianna at CBS to work on other news programs. But Bianna’s deal with CBS News guarantees her a co-anchor position on “CBS This Morning,” which allows her to leave the network if she isn’t kept in that role. A source close to Bianna said she planned to exercise her option to leave.

After her persistence in looking for a job she was offered a job at CNBC, where she worked for six years as a producer. Bianna became an on-air correspondent after being asked to fill in one day. Golodryga was named one of the top journalists under the age of 30 in 2004, . Between 2007 and 2010, She was a correspondent for ABC and was named co-anchor of the weekend edition of Good Morning America in May 2010, following the departure of former co-anchor Kate Snow, who went to work for NBC.

Bianna was the first person to interview Anzor Tsarnaev, the father of Boston Marathon bombers Tamerlan Tsarnaev and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev in April 2013, which she called “the most emotional moment” of her career. She first assisted her colleagues with the proper pronunciation of the name, but then was tasked with calling Anzor in Chechnya. He had very few details to offer but called her back the next day, trying to find more information about what was happening and whether or not Dzhokhar, who had been taken into custody severely injured, was still alive.

She served as weekend co-anchor of Good Morning America until August 4, 2014, when she left it to join the business and finance news department of Yahoo! News.  She has guest-hosted on Way Too Early and is a regular contributor to Morning Joe on MSNBC. She was a guest co-anchor of the CBS Morning News in 2017.  Bianna joined CBS on a permanent basis as a correspondent in September 2017 and simultaneously joined CNN as a contributor.

She confronted Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, a Republican from California in December 2016, over his defense of Russian Pres. Vladimir Putin. Rohrabacher at that time,was considered a candidate to be appointed Secretary of State by then-president elect Donald Trump, and was criticizing China for its record on human rights. Golodryga then asked about Putin, who has been consistently praised by Trump. Rohrabacher answered, “Oh, baloney. Where do you come from? How can you say that?” to which Golodryga replied, “I come from the former Soviet Union that’s where I came from. I came here as a political refugee. That’s where I came from.” Rohrabacher appeared flustered and accused Golodryga of being biased before he compared Putin to Mikhail Gorbachev.

Bianna apart from being a member of the Council on Foreign Relations she is also a regular columnist for The Huffington Post.

Bianna whose husband was a former Bill Clinton staff member and then working for the Obama White House in 2015 , was selected by Hillary Clinton to conduct Clinton’s first interview as a presidential candidate. Clinton however, expressed her choice as “Bianna”, which was misinterpreted by Clinton’s staff as “Brianna” and an interview was scheduled with CNN’s Brianna Keilar, who conducted a tough interview. Bianna responded that It happens that all the time her name gets butchered. She said she never thought it would have impede her from participating in what would be one of the biggest stories of her life.
