Denise Dufala Biography

Denise Dufala is an American journalist and author. She is best known for being the principal news anchor of Channel 19, WOLO-TV in Cleveland for over 20 years. She began her Cleveland news career as a reporter at WJW Channel 8. In 1991 she became an anchor at Channel 8 in, then jumped to Channel 19 as anchor in 1994. She went on-air at Channel 19 in 1995 and has worked there ever since.

Most recently, Denise co-anchored the 11 p.m. newscast with Romona Robinson. She also co-anchored the 5 p.m. newscast. Channel 19 acknowledged the departure in 2016 on its Facebook page, linking to her announcement. “Here is an important announcement from our colleague, anchor Denise Dufala. We wish her all the best!”

After she left TV Denise decided to focus on one of her bucket list items  writing a book. “Bomba the Brave” is a story about a bunny named Bomba that gets made fun of after he wears his new glasses to school. That’s when a bunny named Tess comes to his rescue and teaches others the importance of kindness. Dufala is the National Ambassador for the Values-In-Action Foundation’s school-based anti-bullying program called “Be Kind Stick Together.”

On July 16, 2007 Denise got married to EdO’Malley. During their marriage Denise was 41 and Ed was 32. The couple’s wedding took place at the St. Colman Catholic Church in Cleveland. Denise planned all the wedding details herself to avoid a wedding planner. The then went to Italy for their honeymoon. They have a son together named James. They currently reside in Cleveland.

Denise mentioned that one of her fundamental life pillars is religion. According to her this gave her stability and a solid ground to start her early career.

One of her favorite activities is yoga, which she takes very seriously. To her yoga represents the power to being both mentally and physically strong and healthy. According to Denise this discipline enables her to maintain a healthy mind and body, a key quality that allowed her to give her 100% in broadcasting.

She mentioned in an interview that she needed a break from her TV work so she could start enjoying time with her son, husband and her mother, and the rest of her family. Denise also mentioned that spending time with her son was of the main things that drove her to make that decision.  Denise’s elderly mother was almost 92 years old at the time of her retirement.
