Harvey Keitel is an American actor and producer. He is an Oscar and Golden Globe Award nominee. Harvey has appeared in films such as Theo Angelopoulos’ Ulysses’ Gaze, Martin Scorsese’s Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, and The Last Temptation of Christ; Ridley Scott’s The Duellists and Thelma & Louise.

Harvey appeared with Robert De Niro in Scorsese’s Taxi Driver (1976), playing the role of Jodie Foster’s pimp. A neo-noir psychological thriller film directed by Martin Scorsese, written by Paul Schrader.
The film is set in a decaying New York City following the Vietnam War. It tells the story of a lonely veteran (De Niro) working as a taxi driver, who descends into insanity as he plots to assassinate both the presidential candidate (Harris) for whom the woman he is infatuated with (Shepherd) works, and the pimp (Keitel) of an underage prostitute (Foster) he befriends.

Harvey co-starred in the movie The Piano in 1993. A New Zealand drama film about a mute piano player and her daughter. It was set during the mid-19th century in a rainy, muddy frontier backwater town on the west coast of New Zealand. The film is based on the musician’s passion for playing the piano and her efforts to regain her piano after it is sold. It was written and directed by Jane Campion.
Its’ score by Michael Nyman became a best-selling soundtrack album, and Hunter played her own piano pieces for the film.
