Isaiah Rashad biography

Isaiah Rashad born Isaiah Rashad McClain , is an American recording artist, rapper and record producer  hailing from Chattanooga, Tennessee. At a young age while in tenth grade; Rashad had already began rapping where he would record himself and friends on laptops. The rapper has toured alongside other prolific artists such as  rappers Juicy J, Joey Badass and Smoke DZA on the Smoker’s Club Tour in 2012. Additionally, the rapper is a founding member of the Chattanooga hip hop collective The House and a member of the Chicago hip hop collective The Village along with artist Kembe X, Alex Wiley and more. Rashad signed to California-based independent record label Top Dawg Entertainment on March 2013. The rapper was indicted to the 2014 XXL freshman class. 

On January 28, 2014, he released Cilvia Demo, his first extended play, via digital distribution. Cilvia Demo was met with widespread acclaim from music critics and debuted at number 40 on the US Billboard 200. Off the buzz from the release of the EP, On September 2, 2016, he released his debut studio album, The Sun’s Tirade, to widespread critical acclaim. The album peaked at number 17 on the Billboard 200.

Radhad was born on May 16, 1991 in  Chattanooga, Tennessee and is 28 years old in 2019.

The rapper  was raised primarily by his mother, who is a hairdresser. While he was young, the rapper’s father would let him stay up late with him while they listened to Too $hort and Scarface. Rashad’s father left when he was three years old.

Rashad enrolled for his university programme at Middle Tennessee State University and was introduced to a friend who owned a recording studio. Coincedentally,the studio owner happened to be related to Rashad and would let him record for free. He would later hop to different studios, creating a broader network for himself forging relationships with DJ Z from DJBooth.net and Jeff Weiss who writes for Rolling Stone and his music would reach a larger audience. He would team up with prolific producers such as MF Doom and Flying Lotus to put out music on his soundcloud. In December 2012, Rashad begun getting attention from various record labels, most of which he showed no interest in. He was featured on the line up of the Smokers Club Tour in 2012 where he got the chance to tour with prolific acts such as Joey Badass, Juicy J among other artists.

Isaiah Rashad Top Dawg Entertainment| TDE

Rashad got the opportunity to meet up with Dave Free;Digi+Phonics’ production manager in March 2013. Dave then   introduced him to Anthony Tiffith, the CEO of Carson, California-based independent record label Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE). The meet up bore fruits as it led to the rapper being signed to Top Dawg Entertainment on June 3, 2013. The record label is known to sign prolific rappers such as Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul,Jay Rock and SZA. 

The record label Top Dawg Entertainment finallymade the signing official with Top Dawg announcing it over Twitter on September 20, 2013, leading to his relocation to Los Angeles, California and began living and recording at the TDE Red Room Studio.
On October 15, 2013, The rapper made his national television debut on the TDE Cypher during the 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards, alongside his label-mates Kendrick Lamar, Ab-Soul, ScHoolboy Q and Jay Rock.

Isaiah Rashad | Cilvia Demo EP

On an interview with Revolt on November 7, 2013, the rapper confirmed that he would be premiering his first official project titled Cilvia in December that year. In mid-January 2014, Rashad then revealed that the mixtape Cilvia would now be his debut extended play (EP) and would contain only a number of featured artists. His recording label’s  CEO  revealed the cover artwork for the EP and that Cilvia Demo would be released digitally on January 28, 2014. The Ep only featured artists from TDE such as SZA, Jay Rock and ScHoolboy Q on the remix of “Shot You Down”. The day before the Cilivia Demo'[srelease, the rapper released the music video for “Soliloquy”; Cilvia Demo’s song.

The Ep followed its release on January 28, 2014 via digital download retailers and was made available in CD format exclusively from Top Dawg Entertainment’s website. In regards to response; the EP received widespread acclaim upon its release with the album receiving an average score of 82  out of 100 to reviews from Metacritic. During its first week of release, the EP debuted at number 40 on the US Billboard 200 chart and sold 8,500 copies in the US.

On May 5, 2014, XXL revealed that Rashad was indicted into their annual freshman class, alongside fellow up-and-comers Chance the Rapper, Ty Dolla $ign, Rich Homie Quan, Vic Mensa, August Alsina, Troy Ave, Kevin Gates, Lil Bibby, Jon Connor, Lil Durk and Jarren Benton.

The rapper took to twitter to announce that he had completed the follow-up project to Cilvia Demo and on September 20, 2015, Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith stated that new material from the rapper would arrive by the end of 2015. In the meantime before the release of his album; he released a new single entitled “Nelly”On September 23, 2015, to a positive response following it up with the album’s second single, “Smile”, was released on the internet on January 14, 2016,to a positive reception.

Isaiah Rashad Free Lunch

In August 2016, he released the single “Free Lunch” to wide acclaim. Free Lunch” is the third single from the project, dropping on August 8th, roughly a month before the album release, and accompanied by a video that featured Rashad working in a laundromat.

After releasing two new tracks off the album titled “I Mean” and “Park”. On September 2, 2016, The rapper released his debut studio album, titled The Sun’s Tirade,  to widespread critical acclaim. The Sun’s Tirade premiered at number 17 on the US Billboard 200, selling 19,000 copies its first week.

Isaiah Rashad Lil Sunny Tour

On October 24, 2016, Rashad announced his first U.S. headlining tour, the Lil Sunny Tour, via Twitter, stopping in 22 cities and set to begin in January 2017. In response to several sold out shows, Rashad announced that his tour would extend into 24 additional cities, as well as adding second shows in Chicago, Boston and New York.

On October 23, 2017, The TDE rapper issued several tweets hinting at a new album coming soon.The album, which would be his third studio album in partnership with  TDE, would follow successful releases by fellow TDE artists SZA and Kendrick Lamar when it is released to the public.

Rashad added in an interview that he listens and gains inspiration from rappers Jay-Z, Nas, Snoop Dogg, OutKast, No Limit Records, Cash Money Records, Erykah Badu, The Fugees, KRS-One, Dead Prez, Kanye West, Little Brother, Three 6 Mafia, 8Ball & MJG, UGK, R. Kelly, Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, James Brown, The Temptations, Smokey Robinson, Gorillaz and Danger Mouse. Moreover, he credits OutKast, namely Big Boi, Scarface, and Jay-Z for being the biggest influences to his music. Then in a later interview with XXL he said his main influences are also OutKast, Erykah Badu, Gnarls Barkley, ScHoolboy Q, T.I. and Lil Wayne.

When asked about Rashad; Complex correspondent Jason Moore had this top say:, “Rashad spits thoughtfully, intelligently, and with precision, morphing his delivery to fit different production styles and making each line count.” Rashad’s debut EP Cilvia Demo is a concept album, which according to Rashad, sums up his adolescent life and mindset in a short period of time.

Isaiah Rashad Tour

From March 1 to June 1, 2014, Rashad toured with ScHoolboy Q for the entirety of his international tour supporting his third studio album Oxymoron .On July 18, 2014, Rashad performed at the Pitchfork Music Festival.

The rapper is not currently on tour.

During promotion of The Sun’s Tirade, Rashad confessed that there was a time where he was addicted to Xanax and alcohol, and was suffering from depression, anxiety and isolation during the time between the release of Cilvia Demo EP and The Sun’s Tirade. The rapper also stated that he “fucked up”, and was almost dropped out of his record label TDE a total of three times during the recording of his album.

In an interview with Vice correspondent, The rapper revealed that at 19 he had suicidal tendencies and attempted suicide a few times however he “chickened out”, saying that it was just one of the many adventurous moments in his life.

In an interview with Sway, the rapper was quick to add that his mother cut his long hair off a few months earlier to get rid of his bad omens. After the process was done they smoked a blunt and called it a day.
