Joel Embiid, a talented Cameroonian-born American professional basketball player, currently graces the courts as a key member of the Philadelphia 76ers in the National Basketball Association (NBA)

Embiid was born in Yaoundé, Cameroon, in 1994. He started playing basketball at the age of 16, and caught the attention of American scouts after a few years. He enrolled at Montverde Academy in Florida, where he quickly became one of the top high school players in the country.

Embiid committed to play college basketball for the Kansas Jayhawks, but he missed his first two seasons due to injuries. He made his debut in the 2013-14 season, and was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team.

Embiid was drafted third overall by the 76ers in the 2014 NBA draft. He missed his first two seasons due to injuries, but made his debut in the 2016-17 season. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team after averaging 20.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

Embiid is eligible to play for Team USA because he is a US citizen. He was born in Cameroon, but he moved to the United States in 2013 to attend high school. He became a US citizen in 2021.
