JoEllen Walters Biography
JoEllen Walters is an American teacher with the Anchorage School District at a Title 1 school. She is best known as Miss Alaska USA 2019. JoEllen of Eagle River was crowned Miss Alaska USA 2019 on August 5, 2018 at Wendy Williamson Auditorium on the UAA Campus in Anchorage. She represented Alaska for the title of Miss USA 2019 on May 2, 2019 in Reno, Nevada.
Her long-time platform of Proper Disposal of Prescription Medication started after her Grandmother mentioned that she wasn’t sure what to do with the pain medication she was prescribed after her foot surgery.

JoEllen was born, raised and lived in Eagle River with her family for the last 15 years. Information about her parents and siblings is still not known since she has not yet talked about them in public.
JoEllen Walters Education
JoEllen is a 2012 graduate from Chugiak High School. In 2017 she graduate from the University of Alaska Anchorage with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She is a teacher with the Anchorage School District at a Title 1 school.
JoEllen Walters Miss Alaska 2019
Walters is a first-grade teacher at North Star who won the Miss Alaska USA pageant in August 2018. She has long been an advocate for proper prescription drug disposal, which is her platform for the competition.
JoEllen is one of two Eagle River women competing in the Miss USA events. Eagle River’s Meghan Scott is the 2019 Miss Alaska Teen USA winner. JoEllen Walters Platform
JoEllen’s long-time platform of Proper Disposal of Prescription Medication started when her Grandmother mentioned that she wasn’t sure what to do with the pain medication she was prescribed after her foot surgery. She began working as the “youth perspective” speaking about the National Prescription Drug disposal events in 2010.
Her platform is empowered toward the prevention of opioid abuse and environmental safety. On average 8 out of 10 heroin users started with abusing prescription drugs sometimes obtained from the family medicine cabinet. Her goal is to educate about proper ways to dispose of the medication that are environmentally friendly and keep our community safe.
With the title of Miss Alaska USA, she hopes to empower all women to be confidently beautiful, ignite a passion for our community, and show the country the beauty of Alaska and its people.
