Jordan Clarkson Biography

Jordan Clarkson is a Filipino-American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Before transferring to Missouri he played college basketball for two seasons with Tulsa , where he earned second-team all-conference honors in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

Jordan foregone his senior year in college to enter the 2014 NBA draft.  He was selected by the Washington Wizards in the second round with the 46th overall pick and was immediately traded to the Los Angeles Lakers. During his first year, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team, a rarity for a second-round pick. In 2018 Jordan was traded to the Cavaliers.

Clarkson was born in Tampa, Florida, and moved to San Antonio, Texas around the age of six.  He is the son to Mike Clarkson and Annette Davis. He is a Filipino American; while his father is an American (African-American), his mother, is from the Philippines.  His father, Mike Clarkson and his mother, Annette Davis, got a divorce when Jordan was still young. Jordan whose mother hails from Pampanga, Philippines, has pointed out that he is very proud to be half Filipino. After his parent’s divorce he got to be closer to his mom and grandmother who taught him more about the Filipino culture.

Jordan remembered growing up in poverty even when his parents were still together.  He has one sibling a brother who is known as Bear Clarkson.

His father has been suffering from a form of cancer known as carcinoma which affects the lower back around the spine since 2015.

Jordan went to Karen Wagner High School in San Antonio. In his second year he averaged 10 points per game while earning honorable mention all-district accolades. , He averaged 20 points, six rebounds and four assists per game as a junior, leading his team to a 32-8 record and the Class 5A state semi-finals.

Jordan signed a National Letter of Intent to play college basketball at the University of Tulsa on November 11, 2009.

During his senior, he averaged 18.9 points, 6.1 rebounds 3.4 assists and 2.1 steals, leading his team to a 38-2 record and a semi-final loss in the state championship. Jordan was named San Antonio High School Player of the Year.

Jordan dated Kendall Jenner  from 2016 to 2017. The dating rumor between the two began after they were spotted at Coachella. Jordan was traded, along with Larry Nance Jr., to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Isaiah Thomas on February 8, 2018,  Channing Frye and a 2018 first-round draft pick. Three days later in his debut for the Cavaliers , Jordan scored 17 points in a 121–99 win over the Boston Celtics. The Cavaliers reached the 2018 NBA Finals, where they were defeated in four games by the Golden State Warriors.

Jordan was named to the 2011 Conference USA All-Freshman team in his freshman season at Tulsa. This is after being named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week four times in 2010–11. In 27 games (nine starts), he averaged 11.5 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 24.9 minutes per game.

In his second year season, Jordan was named to the All-Conference USA first team and the NABC All-District 11 team. In 31 games (all starts), he averaged 16.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 33.9 minutes per game.

Jordan transferred to Missouri in May 2012,and eventually sat out the 2012–13 season due to NCAA transfer rules.

During his redshirted junior season, Jorda was named to the 2014 All-SEC second team. He was also named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 list in January 2014 and won three Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honors. In 35 games (all starts), he averaged 17.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals in 35.1 minutes per game

Jordan Clarkson Lakers

Jordan on June 26, 2014,was selected with the 46th overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft by the Washington Wizards. Later he was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers on draft night for cash considerations, and joined the team for the 2014 NBA Summer League.

He signed with the Lakers on August 25, 2014. Jordan received multiple assignments to the Los Angeles D-Fenders of the NBA Development League during his rookie season. He did not play for the Lakers for most of the first half of the season. However, Jordan ended up starting 38 games for the Lakers, primarily at point guard, and averaged 15.8 points, 5.0 assists, and 4.2 rebounds as a starter.

He had a season-best game with 30 points and 7 assists in a loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on March 24, 2015.  Jordan started alongside Jeremy Lin, the two became the first Asian-American starting backcourt in league history.  He recorded back-to-back double-doubles on March 30 and April 1. For the season, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team.  In the prior 30 years, there had been only four other second-round picks that were named to the first team.

Jordan scored a career high-tying 30 points in a 120–109 loss to the Denver Nuggets on November 3, 2015.  He played for Team USA in the Rising Stars Challenge on February 12, 2016, where he recorded 25 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals in a win over Team World.

He re-signed with the Lakers on a four-year, $50 million contract on July 7, 2016.  On October 26, 2016, in the Lakers’ season opener Clarkson scored a team-high 25 points off the bench in a 120–114 win over the Houston Rockets.

In 2011, talks were initiated for Clarkson to play for the Philippines men’s national basketball team.

The NBA cleared Clarkson in August 2018, to play for the Philippine team in the 2018 Asian Games that was held from August 18 to September 2, 2018 with a one-time exception. Jordan was able to play for the Philippines for the first time.

Jordan’s first game with the national team was against China in which Jordan led all scorers with 28 points but fell short of the match 82-80. Jordan in his second game with the national team, once again led his team with a 25-point performance but could not overcome Korea.

The team bowed out of for a podium finish. Jordan managed to get his first win with the national team, defeating Japan 113–80, in which he scored 22 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. He ended the tournament with a win, beating Syria 109 to 55 with a 29-points performance earning the Philippines a fifth-place finish, its best in 16 years.
