Klay Thompson NBA

After his junior season, Thompson declared for the 2011 NBA draft , being selected 11th overall by the Golden State Warriors. This pick of a guard prompted speculation that the Warriors would trade starter Monta Ellis. Thompson was praised by Warriors general manager Larry Rileyfor his shooting ability and expressed confidence that Thompson would improve his defensive skills with new coach Mark Jackson.

Thompson was not selected by The NBA for the 2012 NBA All-Star Weekend Rising Stars Challenge. But, in the four games after that decision, Thompson improved in all areas of basketball over his current season averages: points per game (12.5 over 7.6), shooting percentage (54.3% overall including 55.6% for three-pointers, up from 46.7 and 48.1), rebounds (2.8 from 1.6), assists (1.5 from 1.3), steals, and turnovers.

On March 13, 2012 the Warriors traded Ellis to the Milwaukee Bucks The following game, Thompson scored a season-high 26 points in a loss to the Boston Celtics. A week later, he exceeded his previous high with 27 points in a win over the New Orleans Hornets. As of mid-February 2012, Thompson played around 17 minutes per game, but he played an average 30 minutes per game during the next month. At the end of the season, Thompson was voted to the NBA NBA All-Rookie First Team.

Klay Thompson Injury

Klay Thompson suffers left knee strain, but returns to game
Early in the second quarter, Klay Thompson drove to the hoop and landed awkwardly. After going to the locker room, he was diagnosed with a left knee strain, but returned to the game.

Toward the end of the third quarter of Thursday June 13, 2019  night’s Game 6 in Oakland, Klay  landed awkwardly after he was fouled on a breakaway layup by Danny Green, and appeared to badly mess up his left knee. He has already missed a game of this series with an injured left hamstring; the Warriors are of course already playing without Kevin Durant; Kevon Looney is playing with fractured chest cartilage; DeMarcus Cousins is hobbling around on a recovering quadriceps. It’s a bad scene.

Klay was down on the court for a minute and appeared to be in a lot of pain, and then had to be helped off the floor. But as was mentioned on the broadcast, because the injury happened on a foul, if Klay could not remain in the game long enough to attempt his free throws, he would be disqualified from the remainder of the game. Needless to say, that would be a horrible loss for the Warriors. A Warriors assistant appeared to run down the tunnel and remind Klay of this fact, whereupon Klay turned around and hobbled back to the floor, where he was greeted by a huge roar from the home crowd.

Klay buried the free throws, and the Warriors used an intentional foul to stop play so that Klay could be substituted out without any penalty. He was able to jog back to the Warriors locker room, but Doris Burke reported in the fourth quarter that despite his best efforts, Klay would not be able to return to the floor. He had 30 points on just 12 shots and was arguably the best player on the floor prior to his injury. This is getting ridiculous.

Klay Thompson will not compete in the three-point contest

Published: February 3, 2019

Klay Thompson will represent the Golden State Warriors at the 2019 NBA All-Star Game, but he won’t compete in the three-point contest. The sharpshooter had received an invitation, and mulled it for a while, but finally decided to pass this year.

Thompson had competed in the event four years in a row, including in 2016 when he edged out teammate Steph Curry for the victory. Klay will still be in Charlotte for the weekend, as he was named an All-Star reserve for the fifth time – this will just be the first time that he’s played in the All-Star Game but not competed in the three-point contest.

That said, he’ll surely be in the arena on Saturday cheering on Curry, who jumped on the chance to not only compete in his hometown, but against his brother, Seth Curry of the Portland Trail Blazers. So it will be a fun contest for Warriors fans, even if only one of the Splash Brothers competes.

NBA All-Star Saturday takes place on Saturday, February 16, while the All-Star Game is on Sunday, February 17. Both events begin at 5:00 p.m. PT, and are televised on TNT.
