Lakers news: Kobe Bryant on comeback from retirement after 0-3 run

KOBE BRYANT has joked that he is considering coming out of retirement if the Lakers lose another two games running.
Bryant retired in 2016, having spent 20 years at the franchise.

He suffered a series of injuries in the last few years of his career, and ultimately retired age 34.

The Lakers legend was the youngest player in the history of the NBA to reach 30,000 career points.
Things haven’t been so great since the latest hero of the franchise, LeBron James, joined.

The Lakers are 0-3, and have been slapped with suspensions to Rajon Rondo and Brandon Ingram after their role in an on-court brawl.

Now, on a tour for his new book Mamba Mentality, Kobe joked that he would come out of retirement and play again for the Lakers if things got much worse.

“If they go 0-5 I’ll think about it,” he joked, before adding: “No.”
Bryant then revealed his role in helping his old franchise acquire James.

The deal was possible because James had reached the end of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After his contract expired, he was able to speak with potential teams about signing.

However, he played down his involvement in the move.
“I didn’t speak to LeBron about coming to LA,” Bryant said.

“But I spoke to Jeanie Buss (Lakers owner).

“She wanted to get LeBron, but LeBron isn’t going to come here if the management isn’t figured out.

“They needed to get the management sorted, a clear focus, it can’t be as chaotic as it has been in the past.

“And she did it.”
