Matthew Wilkas Biography
Matthew Wilkas is an American New York based theatre and film actor, playwright and reality television personality. He is best known for his lead role as Matt in the 2012 feature film Gayby and for playing Flash Thompson in the short-lived Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark. A playwright as well as an actor, he authored Pageant Play with Mark Setlock which premiered at the Berkshire Theatre Festival.

Matthew and Gus rescued, Beemo, during the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in South Korea in early 2018. But they tragically lost Beemo in May after she died from a birth defect.
The pair had a gut-wrenching visit to a dog meat farm where they meet and adopted their first dog, Beemo and also witnessed the birth of their other pup, Birdie.
Although their time with Beemo was short she changed their lives and stole their hearts. After the dog passed away they pledged that they would get tattoos in her honor. Gus brought Matthew to London for New Year’s and surprised him with appointments for us to finally get their tattoos done.’
In August 2018, the couple adopted Birdie, another rescue dog from South Korea. But Gus wanted to be sure he didn’t disrespect Beemo’s memory.
‘Nothing in the world could ever replace Beemo,’ wrote Gus ‘Or the love that we felt and still feel for her but Birdie has already stolen a new place in our hearts and we’re excited to be dog dads again.

Matthew television career began in 2003 with a token role in the TV series Hope & Faith followed by brief appearances in The New Twenty and Ugly Betty. After several small roles on television, in 2012, he had a lead role in the feature film Gayby. The film which debuted at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival. The film is based on Matt a comic book store worker (played by Wilkas) and Jenn a yoga instructor (played by Jenn Harris), best friends from college, now single and in their thirties, in agreement with a pact they had made in their youth, decide to have a baby (“gayby”) together, even though Jenn is straight and Matt is gay.
Matthew and Harris co-won the Award for “Best Acting Ensemble: Feature” during the Ashland Independent Film Festival for their roles in Gayby in 2012. The film won a number of other festival awards. It was also named one of the top ten independent films of 2012 by IndieWire, and nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. Matthew was named one of Out magazine’s “Out100” and one of the Los Angeles Outfest Film Festival’s “Five in Focus” For his performance in the film.

Matthew appeared in Undateable in 2014. This is an American television sitcom that aired on NBC where he was cast as the character Brett, Justin Kearney’s gay friend (pilot only). Matthew also appeared in several shorts including This Bachelorette Party Sucks and Masc Only.
He had a lead role in New York Is Dead in 2017. The series that he co-wrote and produced. He portrayed Felix and he co-stars with Gayby actress Jenn Harris. In the same year he is appeared in a lead role as X in “Boy Culture: The Series”, an episodic sequel to the original 2006 LGBT American drama film Boy Culture. A Kickstarter campaign was launched for the production. The series also included Darryl Stephens (as Andrew), Matthew Crawford (as Chayce), as well as Stephen Guarino and singer Steve Grand.
