After 27 years of doing a five-minute weekday segment at 7:55 a.m., Farber said he was informed Monday July 16, 2018 by Chris Bury the program director at CJAD 800 and TSN 690 that he was being cut from CJAD for budget reasons. He said he will continue to do his weekly 15-minute segment with TSN 690’s Mitch Melnick at 6:05 p.m. on Mondays after returning from his summer vacation.
“I wrapped up on July 2 on the presumption I’d be back around Labour Day,” Farber said about his CJAD 800 segment during a phone interview Tuesday afternoon. “Now it won’t happen. A little surprised because it had been part of my routine and something I looked forward to for a long time. It came out of the blue, but budgets are budgets.
“It’s a different audience than Melnick,” Farber added about the CJAD 800 listeners. “We’d look at different topics occasionally. I would be much shorter than with Melnick. I’m not sure how much crossover there is between the morning audience on CJAD and the evening audience on TSN 690. Some people listen to one and not the other.”
