Preston Phillips Biography
Preston Phillips is an American Journalist. He co-anchors Seattle’s #1 rated 11:00 p.m. newscast, Monday through Friday. He also co-anchors KOMO News at 3:30 p.m. and anchors breaking news at 4:00, 5:00, and 6:00 p.m. Prior to his move to mornings, Preston anchored the CBS5 weekend evening newscasts and provided live, breaking news and investigative reports three nights a week. Preston landed in Phoenix in December of 2015 from San Diego, where he anchored weekend evenings and reported for ABC affiliate, KGTV.

Preston co-anchors KOMO News at 3:30 p.m. and anchors breaking news at 4:00, 5:00, and 6:00 p.m. Before he Joined KOMO in December of 2018, he co-anchored the weekday morning and noon newscasts at KPHO in Phoenix, Arizona. Preston is a multi-Emmy Award-winning journalist, with a love for enterprising exclusive stories and delivering breaking news.
He also co-anchors Wake Up Arizona on CBS5 from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday.
Prior to his move to mornings, Preston anchored the CBS5 weekend evening newscasts and provided live, breaking news and investigative reports three nights a week. Preston landed in Phoenix in December of 2015 from San Diego, where he anchored weekend evenings and reported for ABC affiliate, KGTV.
While there, he and his weekend team won the regional Emmy Award for “Best Weekend Evening Newscast,” three years in a row. In 2015, Preston received his third Emmy nomination for “Best Anchor” and a nomination for breaking/spot news coverage, in which he provided live, breaking news reports from the front lines of what became known as San Diego’s May Firestorm.
Since the rise of ISIS, Preston has provided in-depth investigative, breaking and exclusive news reports on the terror group’s impact on Middle Eastern Christians living in San Diego and on their families living in Iraq.
Preston was the first journalist to break the news on-air regarding the disappearance and massive search effort underway for a missing San Diego teen, who would turn out to be Chelsea King in 2010. He turned investigative and breaking news reports in the days leading up to and following the arrest and sentencing of her killer, John Gardner.
Preston anchored and reported at NBC affiliate, KSEE, in Fresno, California before his move to San Diego. While there, he traveled to Juarez, Mexico with a camera crew during the height of the cartel killings in an effort to help free a wrongfully charged U.S. Army veteran facing a life sentence in the notorious Cereso prison for bringing guns and ammunition into Mexico. His effort was successful, and Preston was credited by officials with the U.S. Consulate for saving the man’s life.
