Spike Lee Biography
Spike Lee born as Shelton Jackson is an American film director, producer, writer, and actor. He has a production company, 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks, which has produced over 35 films since 1983.
Lee made his directorial debut with She’s Gotta Have It (1986), and has since directed such films as Do the Right Thing (1989), Malcolm X (1992), The Original Kings of Comedy (2000), 25th Hour (2002), Inside Man (2006), Chi-Raq (2015), and BlacKkKlansman (2018). He has also acted in ten of his own films.
Lee’s films have scrutinized on race relations, colorism in the black community, the role of media in contemporary life, urban crime and poverty, and other political issues. Due to his work Lee has won numerous accolades , including two Academy Award nominations, a Student Academy Award, and an Academy Honorary Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, two Emmy Awards, two Peabody Awards, an honorary BAFTA Award, an Honorary César, the 2013 Gish Prize, and a Grand Prix award.

On October 21, 2006 Spike Lee and Michael Jordan released the Jordan Spiz’ike shoes , as a tribute to their historic relationship. Their relationship started when Mars Blackmon (a character from Spike Lee’s film, She’s Gotta Have It) became the primary pitchman in Nike commercials for Air Jordans.
The Spiz’ike is a mash-up of the Jordan III, IV, V, VI, Air Jordan IX and XX shoes. 4,567 pairs were the only once made of the original release, with all of the proceeds going to Morehouse College. The number 40 represents Spike Lee’s film company, 40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks, and the number 23 represents Michael Jordan’s jersey number. Each future release of the shoes varied the colors used.

Apart from Spike and Prince being friends and mutual fans for decades, the two worked together on Prince’s “Money Don’t Matter 2Night” video and, more famously, on the 1996 film “Girl 6,” which featured a soundtrack made entirely of music from across the artist’s career, along with a new song he’d written specifically for the movie.
In the hours after Prince died of an accidental drug overdose in April of 2016, Lee threw an impromptu block party outside his Brooklyn office that ended up being live-streamed on CNN, and even got the cooperation of local police when it ran over the time he’d been allotted — that celebration has evolved into an annual event held in Brooklyn (read Variety’s coverage of the event here).

Lee said that, rather than blaming manufacturers of apparel that gained popularity, “deal with the conditions that make a kid put so much importance on a pair of sneakers, a jacket and gold”.
