T Pain Unmasked Singer
T-Pain proved that all he does is win when he took home the golden mask on The Masked Singer!
“I feel like there’s been a weight lifted off my shoulders and now that everyone knows what I can do, I feel like it’s giving me a second win,” the singer, 33, told PEOPLE about his Wednesday night victory over fellow performers Gladys Knight and Donny Osmond.
Since the he became widely known in the early aughts, when he topped the Billboard Hot 100 list with songs like Buy U A Drank and Bartender, many fans have associated his music with Auto-Tune.
“When you hear the name T-Pain, you automatically think Auto-Tune,” he said. “I just wanted to get rid of that.”
In his case, after the Monster won, nobody guessed his identity except for host Nick Cannon.
T-Pain chose the monster costume because it was the silliest option, he says.
“It seemed fun to wear a costume and sing. I always wondered what it was like to wear a costume at Universal Studios. [The Monster] was just the silliest one — if I didn’t make it, at least I got to wear this f–king stupid thing! It was hard to dance in. It was really hard to move, because I could only move my arms. I didn’t have much peripheral vision.”
