Tina Tyus-Shaw has made Savannah and WSAV-TV her home since 1992. Born in Griffin, Georgia, she nurtured her ambition of becoming a Television Broadcaster from an early age. Her academic journey led her to Tennessee State University, where she earned a B.S. in Speech, Communication, and Theater.
After completing her college education, Tina ventured into the world of media, working for television and radio stations in various locations, including Macon, the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and Columbus, Georgia.
In April 1992, an exciting opportunity beckoned when Tina Tyus-Shaw was invited to join WSAV as a Reporter and Weekend Anchor. Subsequently, she became a part of the Weekday Anchor Team in September 1995. Her passion for serving the community was ignited as she covered education and breaking news stories from the field.
Throughout her career, Tina has been involved in and reported on numerous memorable stories. Notably, in 1996, she had the honor of being chosen as a Savannah torchbearer for the 1996 Olympic Torch Run across Georgia, continuing a cherished Olympic tradition within her family initiated by her Aunt, Wyomia Tyus, a two-time 100-meter gold medalist in the 1964 and 1968 Olympics.
Dedicated to making a positive impact on people’s lives, Tina Tyus-Shaw takes immense pride in the Buddy Check 3 Breast Cancer Awareness Program. She firmly believes in the significance of early detection and encourages everyone to join her on the third of each month to perform a breast self-exam, knowing that this effort contributes to saving lives. Together, they can make a meaningful difference.
In her personal life, Tina is happily married to a wonderful man named James, with whom she shares a fulfilling life and the joy of four beautiful children.
Tina Tyus-Shaw values the collaboration with the remarkable team at WSAV and feels fortunate to have chosen to work in the charming city of Savannah.
She extends her gratitude to all who have chosen WSAV as their source for news and looks forward to connecting with viewers during the weeknight broadcasts at 5:00, 5:30, 6:00, 10:00, and 11:00.
