Tom McCollum holds a significant role as the Senior Coordinating Producer at ESPN, where he oversees studio production for SEC Network, contributing to the success of shows like SEC Nation, SEC Now, and The Paul Finebaum Show. His leadership has been instrumental in launching several new shows, including Thinking Out Loud and Homecoming.
Before his tenure with SEC Network, Tom spent five years in Austin, where he played a crucial role in the launch of Longhorn Network. At LHN, he maintains oversight of studio production, particularly the flagship show, Texas GameDay. LHN’s impressive track record includes winning 14 College Sports Media Awards, the most of any network, under Tom’s guidance.
Tom’s journey at ESPN began as a coordinating producer with the network’s award-winning Feature Unit. In this role, he oversaw groundbreaking productions like “Baracketology,” “Training Days,” and “Gruden QB Camp.” He initially started producing features for Sunday NFL Countdown in 2000 and later teamed up with Kenny Mayne to launch the Mayne Event in 2002. His impressive body of work includes producing over 100 Mayne Events for Countdown and features on 31 of the 32 NFL teams. Notably, Tom’s 2006 feature, “Katrina Comeback,” received an Emmy nomination, and he has been part of nine national Sports Emmy-winning projects.
Before joining ESPN in 1997 as a production assistant, Tom McCollum’s career started at the New Orleans Times-Picayune, where he contributed to the Travel and Living sections. He pursued his education at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, graduating in 1994.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Tom’s dedication to volunteering with Special Olympics dates back to 1990. This commitment not only exemplifies his compassion for the community but also led to a significant personal connection, as he met his wife, also a Special Olympics volunteer, at an event in Connecticut in 2006.
