Valerie Boey, a respected member of the FOX 35 news team since 2008, is a seasoned reporter known for her excellence in spot-news journalism and multimedia expertise, earning her accolades from the Associated Press.
Valerie’s journalism journey commenced at WINK (CBS Ft. Myers), where she served as the Collier County Bureau Chief in Naples. Before this, she worked as an assignment editor and associate producer. Her educational foundation was laid at New York University, where she also had the privilege of interning at NBC Nightly News in New York.
Before her tenure at FOX 35, Valerie contributed her talents to the CBS affiliate in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area. As a political correspondent, she was instrumental in establishing the Tallahassee Bureau for WTSP (CBS Tampa) and WTLV (NBC Jacksonville). Valerie’s extensive reach extended to various newspapers, including Florida Today and the Fort Myers News Press, with her work being featured on all Gannett-owned stations and websites. Her career eventually led her to the central newsroom in Tampa, where she collaborated closely with her colleagues.
Valerie’s roots trace back to New York, and she later relocated to Illinois during her high school years. As a Chinese American, Valerie takes immense pride in her Asian heritage. Her commitment to her roots is evident through her leadership in the Asian American Journalists Association’s Florida Chapter and her involvement on the Board of the Florida Associated Press. Valerie is dedicated to mentoring journalism students and actively supports multiple charitable causes.
Beyond her accomplishments in journalism, Valerie is also an aspiring author currently in the process of crafting a children’s book for publication. During her leisure time, she indulges in her love for travel, both overseas and within the United States. Staying active is a key part of her life, with kickboxing and jogging being among her favorite activities. She also enjoys exploring a variety of restaurants and attending concerts, making the most of her free time.
