Valerie Chinn’s journey toward a career in journalism started early, ignited by her first speech class in middle school and several journalism courses in high school. Her passion for journalism, particularly in television, became clear at a young age.
In June 2001, Valerie became a valuable member of the WDRB team. She currently co-anchors WDRB News @ 11:30 and Noon, contributing to the network’s news coverage. For over six years, she held the position of weekend anchor. Before her time at WDRB, Valerie worked as a weekend anchor in several locations, including Duluth, Minnesota, Austin, Minnesota, and Columbia, Missouri.
Valerie is a proud graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Journalism, an institution known for its excellence in journalism education. Her dedication and skills have not gone unnoticed, as she has accumulated numerous awards throughout her career. These accolades include a regional Edward R. Murrow Award and an Emmy Award.
Although Valerie is originally from the West Coast, having grown up in Beaverton, Oregon, she has found her home in Louisville. Beyond her work in journalism, she is an active member of the community, serving on the Northeast Y Board, where she contributes to community development.
Valerie’s work in journalism has allowed her to experience incredible stories, some of which include skydiving from 13,500 feet with the U.S. Army Parachute Team, the Golden Knights, and traveling to Ethiopia to cover the mission work of a local church.
Valerie shares her life in Louisville with her husband, their three children, and their beloved long-haired Chihuahua. It’s clear that she has found fulfillment in both her professional and personal life in this vibrant city.
