Meteorology has been my lifelong passion, stemming from a pivotal moment at the tender age of seven when Category 5 Hurricane Andrew left an indelible mark on my hometown of Miami, Florida in August 1992. Witnessing the immense power of Mother Nature during that event ignited the spark that drives me in my meteorological career today. Currently, I hold the position of Sunrise & Midday Meteorologist at WCBI-TV, a role I’ve proudly held since December 2019. Over my 11-year journey in the meteorology field, I’ve delved into extensive Winter Weather, Severe Weather, and Tornado Warning Coverage.
My dedication to meteorology extends beyond my work. I am an active member of the American Meteorological Society, where I’ve been honored with an appointment to serve a three-year term on the AMS Board of Broadcast Meteorology, commencing in January 2021. My involvement in the AMS doesn’t end there; I also contribute to the AMS Station Scientist Committee and serve as a Broadcast Ambassador to the AMS Latinx Committee. Additionally, I’m a member of the National Weather Association, where I’m diligently working towards earning my NWA Broadcast Seal of Approval.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Communication with a unique focus on both Meteorology and Broadcast Journalism from the University of Miami in 2008, becoming the first student to achieve this distinction. During my five-year tenure at the university, I was actively engaged in various clubs and organizations on campus. I showcased my versatility by participating as a cheerleader, dancer, and color guard member during football season. I also served as a SKYWARN storm spotter for the National Weather Service in Miami. My passion for meteorology was further enriched through internships at renowned institutions, including CNN in Atlanta, WTVJ NBC 6, WSVN Channel 7 FOX, and WFOR CBS 4 in Miami. I contributed as a writer, reporter, and weather forecaster for UMTV’s award-winning show “Newsvision.”
In 2009, I embarked on a new chapter, leaving the sunny shores of Florida for the Show-Me-State of Missouri. My journey began in Joplin, where I served as the Weekend Meteorologist at KOAM-TV. This experience marked my introduction to all four distinct seasons, from snowy winters to severe spring weather and tornadoes, hot and dry summers, and the changing colors of fall. In April 2011, the city of Kirksville beckoned, where I became their Bilingual Meteorologist and Reporter. Tragically, just five weeks after my move, the devastating EF-5 tornado struck the city on May 22. My coverage extensively chronicled the aftermath and recovery efforts, showcasing the resilience of the community.
Over nearly six years at KTVO, I conducted comprehensive weather coverage in both English and Spanish. My role extended beyond meteorology as I actively participated in the community and shared heartwarming stories, highlighting the region’s vibrant agriculture and well-known events and festivals.
In February 2017, I transitioned to Topeka, Kansas, joining KSNT-TV as their Weekend Morning Meteorologist and Multimedia Journalist. During my ten months there, I had the exhilarating opportunity to storm chase in the station’s very own “Storm Tracker” Hummer and cover breaking news.
Subsequently, I returned to Missouri in December 2017, where I assumed the role of Weekday Morning Meteorologist & Feature Reporter at KQ2 (KQTV) in St. Joseph. During my two-year tenure, I achieved the prestigious American Meteorological Society’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (AMS CBM) Seal in February 2019. My career included covering the Kansas City Chiefs during two of the team’s best seasons in franchise history, allowing me to forge connections with remarkable individuals.
When I’m not immersing myself in the world of meteorology, I lead an active and diverse life. My interests span from traveling to dancing, staying fit through exercise, and indulging in the pleasures of cooking and baking. I have a passion for movies, reading, and shopping, and I cherish quality time with family and friends. My love for sports knows no bounds, as I avidly support my hometown teams, from the Miami Hurricanes to the Miami Dolphins, Miami Heat, and Miami Marlins. Additionally, I’ve become a fervent fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, the Kansas City Royals, and the University of Kansas Jayhawks. As a devoted Disney enthusiast, I seize any opportunity to visit Walt Disney World, adding a touch of magic to my adventures.
