Vicki Yates brings over three decades of experience and award-winning reporting to your nightly news at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Her impressive career includes not only anchoring and reporting but also extensive community involvement, both on and off the air.

Her journey in the world of news began in Detroit, Michigan, during her college years. As a freelance reporter, she contributed to Michigan’s top minority newspaper, The Michigan Chronicle. While still a junior at Michigan State University, Vicki secured a role as a news reporter at WJIM-TV. She took on challenging assignments, including covering crime and various issues at MSU.

Vicki’s experience and responsibilities continued to grow as she worked as an Assistant News Director, reporter, and Public Affairs Director at WMJC Radio in Detroit. In this role, she oversaw six daily newscasts and managed two weekly public service programs.

Her career path led her to become a newswriter, producer, and news reporter at two other stations in Michigan and Ohio. Vicki’s talent ultimately landed her an anchor and news reporter position at WKRC-TV in Cincinnati, where she played a key role in making the noon newscast the number one choice in the market. Before joining the NewsChannel 5 team, Vicki anchored and reported at KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for five years.

Throughout her career, Vicki has earned numerous accolades, including six Emmy Awards. Her impressive work includes a mini-documentary titled “Bundles of Joy” on multiple births, a special news feature about the life of Olympian Wilma Rudolph, and her news franchise, “School Patrol.”

In 2011, Vicki had the distinct honor of being invited by the White House to visit Washington, D.C., and conduct a one-on-one interview with President Barack Obama.

Outside of her professional commitments, Vicki dedicates much of her weekends to hosting events for local organizations and visiting her beloved children. Her enduring commitment to journalism and her community is evident in her remarkable career and contributions.
