Victoria Johnson boasts a distinguished career as a broadcast journalist, spanning back to 2006. She has had the unique privilege of working in her hometown, San Diego, since October 2015. Currently, she fulfills the role of the weekend weather anchor and is actively engaged in reporting captivating feature stories for FOX 5 San Diego.
Victoria’s path towards television news took shape during her academic journey at the University of San Diego, where she pursued a degree in Communication. Her college years were marked by a pivotal internship at KFMB-TV, the CBS affiliate in San Diego. During this role, she served as the entertainment segment intern, where she wrote and produced news stories and conducted interviews with Hollywood celebrities, including luminaries like Ben Affleck, Dakota Fanning, and Johnny Knoxville.
Upon her graduation from the University of San Diego, Victoria embarked on her professional journey with a position at Clear Channel’s Total Traffic Network. Here, she assumed the role of an airborne reporter and photographer, operating from Chopper 8 for the weekday morning show at KFMB-TV. Over nearly seven years, she delivered real-time traffic updates and reported breaking news from the vantage point of a helicopter. This experience afforded her the privilege of witnessing daily sunrises and capturing stunning aerial footage. Victoria’s talents even extended to working on projects like National Geographic Channel’s 2010 Great Migrations nature documentary miniseries and the 2010 Blue Ocean Film Festival finalist, “Secrets de la Isla Guadelupe.”
Victoria’s dedication to her craft led her to further her education. She earned a certificate of achievement in TV News from the Radio and TV Department at San Diego City College.
Her passion for aviation ignited as she provided extensive media coverage for the U.S. Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron, the renowned Blue Angels, during their 2012 season. The pinnacle of her experiences included soaring in the Blue Angels F/A-18 Hornet and the C-130 Hercules “Fat Albert,” as well as partaking in exhilarating skydiving adventures with the U.S. Navy’s Parachute Team, the “Leap Frogs.”
Following her time on the Central Coast in San Luis Obispo, California, where she took on multiple roles, including news and weather anchor, executive producer, and newsroom manager for KSBY-TV, the local NBC affiliate, she moved back to her cherished hometown, where she has remained a dedicated member of the FOX 5 family.
Victoria Johnson’s remarkable journey also extends to her role as the emcee for the San Diego Chargers NFL Draft day event, representing FOX 5 San Diego. Her life is animated by her passions for aviation, travel, and a steadfast enthusiasm for embracing whatever adventures come her way.
