Warren Gerds, a Digital Journalist and Critic at Large for WFRV-TV and WeAreGreenBay.com, hails from West Allis, Wisconsin. He embarked on his journey with WFRV on June 3, 2013, and his interests span writing, encompassing both fiction and non-fiction books, as well as reviews and features for WFRV. Warren is also passionate about the wild landscapes of northern Wisconsin and traveling.
Warren’s journalistic career began with a journalism degree, which included unique minors in English and chemistry, from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He started in the newspaper industry by editing stories. His first review was penned within a month of joining the newspaper, critiquing the blockbuster movie “Hawaii.” This marked the beginning of a long and successful career, including 35 years as a critic at large at the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
Throughout his tenure, Warren crafted numerous reviews, feature stories, and series, interviewing celebrities and local talents with remarkable skills. Many of his articles left a lasting impact on readers, with people cherishing clippings of articles he wrote decades ago.
Aside from his journalistic pursuits, Warren was known in Milwaukee as the scoring champion of a recreational basketball league. Even in Green Bay, his ball-playing skills were recognized, leading to amusing anecdotes and inquiries from acquaintances.
Warren’s passion for writing was ignited by one of his brothers, who shared a fantasy story with him during his childhood. Over the years, this passion grew, culminating in the creation of several books. While working full-time at the newspaper, he authored three books, and after leaving, he added four more to his literary repertoire. These books encompass various genres, including non-fiction, historical fiction, autobiographical fiction, and more.
Warren is part of a close-knit family, with three older brothers, and he shares three grown children with his wife, Kathleen, each of whom has achieved remarkable feats.
His love for exploration takes him from the wilds of northern Wisconsin to cosmopolitan cities like Paris and London. Attending plays and concerts is a cherished habit, allowing him to write about these live performances and inspire readers to experience them firsthand or vicariously through his reviews.
