Windsor Johnston has been a steadfast presence as a newscast anchor and reporter for NPR since 2011. In her role, she takes on the responsibility of crafting, producing, and delivering hourly national newscasts, keeping listeners informed with the latest developments. On occasion, she steps into the field to report on breaking news stories for NPR’s Newsdesk.
Over the years, Windsor has covered a spectrum of impactful events, leaving a lasting mark on her career. Notable moments in her reporting journey include her coverage of Election Night in 2016, the historic Women’s March on Washington, and the tragic mass shooting in Las Vegas in 2017.
Windsor Johnston brings to NPR a wealth of experience that spans over two decades, encompassing roles as an anchor, host, and reporter across various news organizations, including NPR Member stations. Her career trajectory led her to serve as the News Director and Morning News Anchor at WRTI from 1995 to 2011. Between 1999 and 2004, she took on the role of Weekend Edition host and reporter at WHYY. Following her tenure at WHYY, she assumed the position of News Anchor at Metro Network from 2004 to 2008. Notably, in 2007 and 2008, Windsor embarked on a journey as a freelance reporter in Kenya, covering the political turmoil that followed the country’s presidential election. Her dedication to reporting took her to El Salvador in 2010 and, more recently, to Kolkata, India, as a correspondent for NPR.
In addition to her reporting, Windsor’s commitment to education shines through. From 2004 to 2012, she shared her knowledge as an adjunct journalism professor at her alma mater, Temple University. Currently, she continues to contribute as an adjunct journalism professor at American University.
Windsor Johnston earned her degree in broadcast journalism from Temple University in 1999, laying the foundation for her accomplished career in the world of journalism.
