Xavier McKnight, a dedicated member of ABC7, assumed the role of Digital Producer-Reporter in February 2019, contributing his talents and enthusiasm to the media landscape.
Hailing from Covington, GA, Xavier is thrilled to embark on his journey on the Suncoast, embracing new challenges and opportunities in the world of journalism. He takes pride in his alma mater, Savannah State University, where he pursued his academic and leadership endeavors with great determination.
Xavier’s educational journey at Savannah State University was marked by a major in mass communications and a minor in history. He not only excelled academically but also held notable leadership roles on campus. Notably, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the university’s student publication, The Tiger’s Roar Newspaper, for two years, showcasing his commitment to journalism.
During his undergraduate years, Xavier’s passion for journalism earned him recognition and opportunities beyond the classroom. He was selected as a Spotify Opening Act Participant for the 2017 conference, highlighting his talent and potential in the field. Additionally, he was honored as a 2018 HBCU Fellowship recipient for the ONA Student Newsroom and Innovation Conference, further solidifying his dedication to journalism excellence.
Xavier’s journey in journalism began to take shape even before his college years. As a high school junior in 2013, he secured his first internship with the Covington News in Covington, GA. It was during this internship that he discovered his true calling in journalism. Throughout his educational journey, Xavier continued to gain valuable experience through internships with organizations such as ESPN Coastal GA, WSAV News 3, where he covered the 2017 High School Football season, and the Savannah State Media Relations Department of Athletics.
Beyond his professional commitments, Xavier enjoys a diverse range of interests and activities in his spare time. He finds relaxation in bowling, indulges his culinary creativity through cooking, maintains an active lifestyle through exercise, seeks thrills on rollercoasters, closely follows sports events, expresses his creativity by creating short films and skits, and continually hones his craft in the field of journalism.
