Lloyd LaCuesta is a Filipino-American journalist. Most recently he was the South Bay bureau chief for the San Francisco Bay Area TV station KTVU’s news division, having worked at KTVU for 35 years. Lloyd retired from the position as of June 2012. LaCuesta is of Filipino ancestry.

“As I end my career, I hope I have helped those who have watched me over the years become better informed and involved citizens,” said Lloyd. “KTVU allowed me to cover events which viewers experienced through my eyes.”

Llyod served in the Army as a broadcast journalist for the American Forces Korea Network. He won the Sigma Delta Chi Award for reporting while at SJSU. He worked as a writer for KNX/CBS Radio in Los Angeles and the Los Angeles Herald Examiner, and as a producer for KABC-TV in Los Angeles and KGO-TV in San Francisco. He began work at Oakland based television station KTVU in 1976. Lloyd has taught journalism at SJSU and Menlo College.

Lloyd was the first president of the Asian American Journalists’ Association. He was also a leader of Unity, the organization of journalists of color.

He flew into the aftermath of the Mount St. Helens explosion. He covered the riots after the Rodney King verdict case in L.A. He reported on the chaos of the Loma Prieta earthquake.

Lloyd has been honored with some of the most prestigious awards in journalism. He has won six Emmy Awards from NATAS — one for Bay Area Breaking News, several Associated Press “Best of the West” awards and many honors from the Peninsula Press Club. His live reporting was integral to The Ten O’Clock News on KTVU Channel 2 winning a national Edward R. Murrow Award for Newscast Excellence in 2004 from RTNDA.
