Matt Reeves Biography

Matt Reeves (Matthew George Reeves) is an American screenwriter, director, and producer.  He started his career as a screenwriter for the films Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995) and The Pallbearer (1996).  The latter of which marked his feature-length directorial debut.

Matt then moved into television as a director and co-creator of the drama series Felicity (1998–2002), alongside J. J. Abrams. Since then he has gone on to direct the found-footage horror film Cloverfield (2008), the romantic horror film Let Me In (2010), and the critically acclaimed science fiction sequels Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) and War for the Planet of the Apes (2017).

Warner Bros. announced in February 2017, that Matt will write and direct the superhero film The Batman, which is set in the DC Extended Universe.

Matt and his friend Abrams co-created the TV series Felicity, for which Matt directed several episodes, including the pilot. He has helmed occasional episodes of other television series, including Relativity and Homicide: Life on the Street, among others.

Matt directed the 2008 monster science fiction film, Cloverfield, which Abrams produced.  He would later executive produce 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox.

He also wrote and directed Let Me In, a remake of the Swedish film Let the Right One In. It was released on October 1, 2010 by Overture Films.  Matt at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con he was a special guest, promoting the film to attendees.

It was announced in 2012 that Reeves would direct a film based on the classic hit TV series The Twilight Zone. Matt stated that the film will have one main story that could relate to the original series. When the film was about to develop in summer 2013, Matt left the project in order to direct the science fiction film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, released in 2014. He later returned to direct the third film in the series, War for the Planet of the Apes, which was released on July 14, 2017.

Matt will write and direct the superhero film The Batman, which is set in the DC Extended Universe and slated for release in 2021.

The Batman won’t be another re-hash of Batman’s origin story, but it will show the character become DC Comics’ greatest detective. The film, which is set for a 2021 release, is expected to feature various members of Batman’s rogues gallery and other characters associated with Gotham City. Casting is still underway, but several major Batman characters have already been cast.

Matt was hired to direct and produce a Batman film set within the DC Extended Universe, titled The Batman in February 2017.  He was writing the screenplay as of June 2018.

Matt will produce the adaptation of The Care and Feeding of a Pet Black Hole for 20th Century Fox Animation.

Matt Reeves Cloverfield

Matt directed the 2008 monster science fiction film, Cloverfield, which Abrams produced. Late he would executive produce 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox. Cloverfield is a found footage monster disaster film which was written by Drew Goddard. It stars Michael Stahl-David, Odette Yustman, T.J. Miller, Jessica Lucas, Lizzy Caplan, and Mike Vogel. The story follows six young New York City residents fleeing from a massive monster and various other smaller creatures that attack the city while they are having a farewell party.
