Tisha Thompson is a dedicated investigative reporter who became a part of ESPN in January 2017. She is based in Washington, D.C., and contributes her investigative prowess to ESPN’s Enterprise unit, covering in-depth stories for various platforms, including E:60, Outside the Lines, SportsCenter, and ESPN.com. Additionally, she serves as a contributing writer for ESPN the Magazine, espnW, and ESPN FC.
Before her tenure at ESPN, Tisha had an impressive career as an investigative reporter. She worked at WRC-TV from 2011 to 2016, followed by a stint at WTTG-TV from 2007 to 2011, both in Washington D.C. Her career began at WMAR-TV in Baltimore from 2003 to 2007. Prior to that, she gained experience as a reporter and anchor at WPSD-TV in Paducah, Kentucky, and KOMU-TV in Columbia, Missouri.
Tisha Thompson’s exceptional work has earned her numerous awards and recognition. She is a proud member of ESPN’s Peabody Award-winning team for their work on “Spartan Secrets.” In 2019, she received the national Gracie Award for Best Online Video Host for “Being Believed: A Conversation with Sister Survivors,” a piece that also garnered the 2019 Gold Telly Award for Best Online Talk Show. Throughout her career, she has accumulated over 100 awards and honors, including Gracie Awards, regional Emmy Awards, regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, the Gerald Loeb Award for business reporting, and the SPJ’s Sigma Delta Chi Award for Public Service journalism. Her investigation alongside producer Andy Lockett, titled “I Just Wanted to Survive” about the University of Rochester Football team, was ranked #2 on Chartbeat’s “100 Most Engaging Stories of the Year,” with over 17.5 million minutes of engagement.
Tisha Thompson’s roots in journalism run deep, as she is a fifth-generation reporter. She even played women’s rugby during her time at Princeton University. She further honed her skills by earning a master’s degree from the University of Missouri Graduate School of Journalism. In addition to her impressive career, she serves as an advisory board member for the Fund for Investigative Journalism and proudly resides in her hometown of Washington D.C.
