Tom Miller, an Emmy award-winning journalist, takes the helm as the anchor for KXAN News Today. Tom’s journey at KXAN began in 2018, and he later assumed his current role in 2020.

During his time in Austin, Tom has been at the forefront of covering significant events. He reported on the devastating Highland Lake floods, walking alongside homeowners whose residences were submerged in several feet of water. Tom also made substantial contributions to KXAN’s award-winning “save our student’s” series, which concentrated on improving the mental health of students. His tenure as morning anchor commenced with field anchoring outside Austin City Hall as local leaders announced the arrival of the coronavirus in Central Texas.

Prior to his time at KXAN, Tom worked in Sacramento, where he covered some of California’s most destructive wildfires in history. His exceptional breaking news coverage earned him both Emmy and AP awards, along with a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award in the Excellence in Innovation category.

Tom’s return to Austin comes after his prior role at KVUE. His career began at KSBW on California’s Central Coast, where he had the unique opportunity to live and work in the area where he grew up.

Academically, Tom graduated magna cum laude with a degree in broadcast journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University.

Beyond his reporting responsibilities, Tom’s personal interests include savoring delicious barbecue, exploring Austin’s hiking trails, and cherishing moments with his wife and baby boy.
