Wess Moore, the Sports Director at Fox 16, has been a prominent figure in the world of sports journalism in the United States for over two decades. Originally hailing from Texas, he ventured into the field of television reporting in 1994 when he started his career as a news reporter in Ada, Oklahoma. His journey then led him back to his East Texas roots, where he worked as a reporter in the Marshall bureau for a Shreveport TV station. During his tenure there, Wess’s dedication and talent earned him promotions to the positions of weekend news anchor and morning news anchor.
It was during this time in Shreveport that Wess met his future wife, Alyson, marking the beginning of a personal and professional partnership. After their marriage, the couple relocated to Victoria, Texas, where Wess served as the main news anchor for three years. However, it was in Victoria that Wess realized his true passion lay in sports reporting.
In 2003, Wess and Alyson made the pivotal decision to move to Little Rock, Arkansas. In the Natural State, Wess assumed the role of Fox 16 Sports Director, solidifying his presence in the local sports media landscape. In addition to his responsibilities at Fox 16, Wess co-hosts “The Zone” on 103.7 The Buzz, a sports talk show that airs from Monday to Friday, 10 AM to 1 PM. Wess’s enthusiasm for sports is evident, and his favorite sport changes with each season.
Growing up, Wess was an active participant in various sports, including basketball, baseball, football, and golf. Despite his passion for golf, he transitioned to primarily covering sports due to ankle-related challenges. Throughout his career, Wess has received numerous accolades for his exceptional news and sports reporting. He garnered recognition when nominated for a Regional Emmy for a compelling story on the near-death experience of current Razorback athlete Jeremey Ward. Wess has also earned the title of sports reporter of the year twice, as voted on by readers of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Furthermore, he was honored as the National Sports Media Association Arkansas Broadcaster of the Year in 2016.
Wess’s extensive career has taken him to various prestigious events, including PGA Tour tournaments, MLB, NFL, and NBA games, bowl games, NCAA Tournament matchups, the College World Series in Omaha, and even the Super Bowl. He eagerly anticipates the opportunity to cover his first BCS National Championship Game.
Outside of their professional endeavors, Wess and Alyson have fully embraced Arkansas as their home. They are proud parents of two daughters, Brooklyn and Berkeley, and they share a love for attending sporting events across the state. Wess Moore’s dedication to sports journalism has made him a beloved figure in Arkansas and beyond, and his journey continues to be marked by passion, excellence, and a genuine love for the world of sports.
