Travis Ruiz holds the position of News Director at a prominent media conglomerate in the Big Country, encompassing KTAB, KRBC, Telemundo Abilene, and BigCountryHomepage.com.

Before ascending to this role in February 2017, Travis served as the Assistant News Director at KVII in Amarillo, Texas. He also contributed his expertise in Colorado Springs, Colorado, while employed at KXRM. Notably, Travis initiated his career in Amarillo, initially with KVII.

Throughout his professional journey, Travis has successfully undertaken various roles within a newsroom, including that of a reporter, anchor, producer, and social media/digital manager. He boasts a record of being a part of a National Edward R. Murrow award-winning team and has covered two national political conventions. Travis’s fervor lies in delivering news that deeply impacts people in their day-to-day lives.

Hailing from Guymon, Oklahoma, Travis deeply comprehends the significance of local news for small, evolving communities. He pursued his education at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas, focusing on Mass Communications.

Community engagement holds great importance in Travis’s life. He actively serves on the board of directors for various organizations, including the Abilene Convention & Visitors Bureau, where he holds the position of Vice-Chair, the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, and Big Brothers Big Sisters Abilene. He also plays a role on the Board of Directors for CASA and is the current Chair for the Hispanic Business Council. Travis’s involvement extends to other local organizations like Abilene Young Professionals and Abilene Downtown Association.

In recognition of his contributions, Travis earned the prestigious title of “Top 20 Under 40” by Abilene Young Professionals in 2020.

Among his many accomplishments, Travis takes the most pride in his three beloved nieces.
