Tyler Butler, reporting for Channel 8, arrived in December 2016 and can be seen on Good Morning Oklahoma from Monday to Friday.

Originally from Maryland’s Eastern Shore along the coast, Tyler’s career started as a cameraman at WBOC-TV in Salisbury, Maryland. He worked the very early morning shift, from 3 a.m. to noon, before transitioning to reporting. He became the Mid-Shore Bureau Chief, covering Maryland politics and issues related to the Chesapeake Bay. His reporting portfolio ranged from covering Superstorm Sandy to the collapse of a historic building in downtown Cambridge, and from the resurgence of bay grasses in the Chesapeake Bay to the ongoing debates between farmers, watermen, and Annapolis lawmakers regarding the best methods to clean up the Bay. Of course, there were plenty of stories about Maryland’s famous crabs as well. Tyler’s hard work earned him numerous awards, a significant achievement for someone who hadn’t previously won much more than a costume contest.

Tyler was drawn to Tulsa by the kind-hearted people, the area’s natural beauty, and the camaraderie among the Channel 8 news team. He’s excited to learn more about the region and welcomes story tips, restaurant recommendations, and suggestions for places to visit.

When he’s not on Lookout Mountain, Tyler spends time at home with his cat, Moneypenny, cruises around town in his 1981 DeLorean, and tries to soak up as much as he can about Green Country. He looks forward to meeting you in the field and working with the fantastic Channel 8 team.
