Tyler Dumas serves as the Realtime Editor for KOAA News5. Originally from Texas, he grew up near Houston and later attended Texas State University, where he pursued studies in Digital Media, Journalism, English Literature, and Sports Science.

Before entering the news industry, Tyler spent a year teaching high school English outside of Austin. He now resides in Colorado Springs with his girlfriend, Krista, who is also a native Texan and teaches art at a local elementary school. They share their home with Kiya, a Yellow Labrador mix.

Tyler is an avid outdoorsman and hunter, finding joy in spending time in the wilderness and pursuing game, whether it be big or small. Colorado’s vast opportunities for hunting and its extensive public lands were a significant draw for him, as they aren’t as readily available in Texas. He is a dues-paying member of both the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Backcountry Hunters Anglers.

Roots music holds a special place in Tyler’s heart, and he boasts a substantial collection of music and memorabilia, with a particular focus on folk, blues, country, and rock & roll. His favorite artists include folk troubadours Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, Todd Snider, and southern rockers like the Drive-By Truckers.

Among his most memorable assignments, Tyler highlights covering the numerous Colorado wildfires during the summer of 2018 and reporting on the closure of an iconic record store in San Marcos, Texas, a story he covered while in college.
