Tyler Job, a Milwaukee native, is excited to bring his award-winning skills to the WKBT News 8 team and is eager to embark on new adventures in La Crosse. He graduated with honors from UW-Whitewater in May 2019, holding a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast/print/web journalism with a minor in communications.
Tyler’s journey in journalism began at UW-Whitewater, where he swiftly declared his major as BPW (Broadcast, Print, Web) and took on the role of a sportswriter for the Royal Purple newspaper during his sophomore year. Over three years, he penned numerous game stories and features, including an award-winning piece titled “A Meinert setback for a major comeback.” As a testament to his dedication, Tyler ascended to the position of Sports Editor in his senior year. During this role, he covered the Warhawks’ football games, witnessing their remarkable journey to their 36th conference championship. Tyler also had the opportunity to interview Packers wide receiver Jake Kumerow, a former UW-W star, about his transition from Division III to the NFL.
Tyler’s involvement extended beyond print media. During his junior year, he ventured into broadcasting for UW-Whitewater’s campus TV station, UWW-TV. His commentary graced numerous football and men’s and women’s basketball games, including women’s NCAA tournament games and football playoff matchups. Together with the football broadcast team, he earned a “Best of the Midwest” broadcast award for their coverage of Whitewater’s 2018 second-round playoff game against St. Norbert at the Wisconsin Community Media conference.
Before joining WKBT News 8, Tyler interned at Milwaukee’s WISN-12 station in the sports department during the fall of 2018. His internship was filled with notable experiences, including coverage of Operation Football high school games of the week, Milwaukee Bucks games, and interviews with NBA stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, Eric Bledsoe, and head coach Mike Budenholzer. He also gained experience anchoring mock sportscasts.
With his impressive resume and diverse experiences, Tyler is ready to continue his journalistic journey at News 8.
In his personal life, Tyler shares some of his favorite things, including a love for the song “Happier” by Marshmello ft. Bastille, an obsession with Star Wars movies, a passion for roller coasters, and a deep affinity for Wisconsin sports teams, particularly the Bucks, Packers, Brewers, Badgers, and even the Blackhawks. As a proud Whitewater alum, he includes the Warhawks on that list too. He admits to being better at watching sports than playing them, and his hobbies include playing Fortnite and being a pro wrestling fan. He’s also a fan of spaghetti and is currently single, with his parents and older brother living in the Milwaukee area.
